FORD RETAIL WINS TOP WEB AWARD

Ford Retail has been commended by Auto Trader, the UK’s most popular motoring website, for making it easy for customers to search through used car stock on its dealership brand websites.

The Auto Trader Click Awards, which took place in Millbank last month, awarded the Ford Retail dealership websites as having the ‘Best Used Car Locator’. Judges were particularly impressed by the intuitive search functionality and the ‘Make an Offer’ feature which enables customers to easily start the buying process online.

The Used Car locator, which resides on www.dagenhammotors.co.uk and other Ford Retail websites, features a simple and clear interface that requires no typing input from visitors and is able to update the list of cars presented in real time as customers change their search criteria. Visitors can search Ford Retail’s used stock of over 3,000 vehicles by selecting which model they are interested in and have the opportunity to specify colour choices, fuel type, age, mileage and price ranges

Speaking of the award, Steve Hood, managing director of the Internet Division at Ford Retail, said: “As an increasing number of our customers are turning to the internet to research their used car purchases, it was a logical step for us to develop the best possible user experience. We have made it as easy as possible for customers to find their perfect car via our dealer websites and we are thrilled that Auto Trader has recognised this achievement.”

Now in its fifth year, the annual Auto Trader Click awards includes franchised and independent dealers, manufactures and car supermarkets competing for honors in a range of categories, including Best Used Car Locator, Best Homepage and website of the year.

Craig Stevens, Trader Media Group sales director and event host, said: “The 2011 Click Awards are about rewarding those who have websites that are effective for car buyers, which all of our winners have done in exemplary form. Congratulations to Ford Retail and the other winners of this year’s awards, who have created the highest quality automotive consumer websites.”

Key highlights (2009 figures in brackets) are:

Turnover £1,105m (£1,151m)

Pre-tax profit £10.9m (£15.7m)

Overall results for 2010, including turnover and pre-tax profit, exceeded internal forecasts, albeit with pre-tax profit down when compared to 2009 which had been an exceptional year driven by the government scrappage scheme and a strong used car market.

The company’s total sales of new vehicles was 51,448, growing its share of Ford’s UK market for the third year in succession to 15.6%, with a 16.1% share for new car sales and 13.7% for new CV sales.

@first parts, Ford Retail’s specialist parts division set up in 2008, also experienced continued strong growth with an 8% increase in sales over the year. It is now the largest dedicated Ford parts business in the UK.

Ford Retail chairman and CEO Chris Hayden commented: “These results are very encouraging and provide clear evidence of the distance we have come since Ford Retail was formed in 2004. Our persistent focus on continuous improvement across all operational areas is bearing fruit. In particular, our award-winning Moments of Truth initiative which is enabling us to deliver the very best in customer service, is helping to really differentiate us and build customer loyalty in our competitive market."

Looking at prospects for the year ahead, Chris Hayden added: “Along with the rest of the volume car retail sector, 2011 will present testing conditions but I am very optimistic that we are in a strong position to achieve further impressive results. Specifically, the internet provides an increasing opportunity for us to diversify and grow our business, and we are fully committed to exploiting this as the market develops.”
